![]() ![]() If on the Surface I disconnect all the mapped drives, I can then type \\MYSERVER in Windows Explorer address bar, get a Windows Security dialog, enter my NAS password and have access to the NAS. All the mapped drives have the disconnected icon and if I click on a mapped drive, I get an error saying "An error occurred while reconnecting M: to \\MYSERVER\Mdirectory Microsoft Windows Network: The local device name is already in use." In response I get a dialog that says I might not have access (which I do) and then something about multiple connections by the same user. My NAS username is filled in so I enter my NAS password. When I try to access the NAS by typing \\MYSERVER in Windows Explorer address bar (which is what I did to setup the mapped drives in the first place) I get a Windows Security dialog asking me to 'Enter network credentials'. If I reboot the Surface, or even just sign out, when I sign back in I cannot access the NAS or mapped drives. That worked until I shutdown the Surface. I then setup my Surface to access the NAS, and mapped drives to some directories on it. ![]() I setup my Lenovo first to access the NAS, and mapped drives to some directories on it. I sign in to both computers using my Microsoft account. One computer is a Surface Pro 4 running Win 10 Pro. One computer is a Lenovo laptop running Win 10 Home. The last setting of the /persistent switch will stay active during the command-line session. If you only need the network connection ones, you can simply leaf the /persistent switch away. This way your network connection will reconnect after you reboot. I added the /persistent:yes switch to it. With the following cmd you can add the network connection net use u: \\servername\folder /persistent:yes Most of the time we use this command to check if the network drive is mapped, so we don’t have to open Explorer for this (so we can stay in the command prompt) Adding a network driveĪll we need to add a network drive is a free drive letter and the path of the network share. This will give you a list of all network connections. So first let start with listing all the network drives that you have currently in use. This is really usefull if you want to create a script to automatically add a network share to multiple computers. If you know the network adres of the network share you can also add it from the command line. You will now see the network drive in your Explorer with the letter that you assigned. You will now see the network drive in your explorer alone with your own drives. This way the network drive will be re-connected every time you log in. Make sure the box Reconnect at sign-in is checked. You probably need to enter a username and password to access the network share.Select the computer or server and then the folder you would like to connect to. ![]()
